Questions
Screens, sound, YouTube, running the night, and what singers can do. Tap a question to open it.
Screens and sound
What do I need to run a night?
Three things: a screen everyone can see with a web browser on it, something to sing through, and a phone to run the line. Plus the internet: the songs play from YouTube.
A laptop plugged into a TV is the most reliable screen. What you need walks through it, Ways to set up the room shows four setups as pictures, and Getting a microphone into the room covers the sound.
Will my smart TV's own browser work?
Often, but not always. The browsers built into TVs are usually slower and older than a laptop's. Some stutter on video, some will not go full screen, and some will not play a YouTube video inside a web page at all.
Try it before the night: open singaroo.com/tv on the TV, type the code it shows on the desk's Set up screens, and play a song.
If it struggles, plug a laptop into the TV with an HDMI cable instead. A TV that is too slow for the singer screen is usually fine as the room screen, which shows who is up and the join code but no video.
Why does the singer screen ask me to tap first?
Browsers do not let a page play sound until somebody has pressed something on it. One tap on Start the night covers the whole evening, as long as nobody reloads the page. On a TV, press OK on the remote.
The video plays but there is no sound
The music comes out of whatever shows the singer screen, so check that device:
- Its volume is up, and it is not muted.
- It is sending sound to the right place. On a laptop plugged into a TV, pick the TV (or your speaker) as the sound output.
- Somebody tapped Start the night on the singer screen.
Can I use a Bluetooth speaker?
Yes, but Bluetooth runs a little behind the picture, so the words on screen run slightly ahead of the music. A cable is better if you have one.
Where do the microphones plug in?
Into your speaker or a karaoke mixer, not into Singaroo: the site plays the music and the words, and the microphones go through your sound system. Getting a microphone into the room shows the usual way, for about $90.
What is the music between songs?
When a song ends, quiet instrumental music fades in on the singer screen, and it fades out as soon as the next song starts, so the room is not standing around in silence. It is on for a new night. To turn it off, open the party's Settings and switch off Music between songs under Screens.
YouTube
Why do some songs start with an ad?
The karaoke tracks play from YouTube, and YouTube decides when to show an ad before a video. Singaroo does not add ads, and it is not allowed to skip or hide YouTube's. When YouTube shows a Skip button, tap it on the singer screen.
If the browser showing the singer screen is signed in to an account with YouTube Premium, the ads usually do not appear at all.
Can I change the key or the speed?
No. These are YouTube tracks, played as they are, in their original key. If a song is too high, try another version: tap Versions on the desk. Different uploads are sometimes in different keys.
A video will not play
Some uploaders do not let their videos play on other sites. When that happens, the screen notices, and another version of the same song is used. You can also pick one yourself with Versions on the desk.
The video is the wrong song, or the words are off
Singers can tap Something wrong with that video? under a song they were given. A person looks at every report; nothing disappears on one report. On the night itself, Versions on the desk swaps to another take.
A song is not there
Search for it anyway: a search that finds nothing goes on the list of songs to find, and the songs people ask for most are found first. Asking for a song that has no playable video puts it on the same list.
Running the night
What is auto mode?
It runs the night for you, and it is on for a new night. When a song ends, the next singer's name comes up with a 15-second countdown, and their song starts by itself. Their phone gets a Start button to go sooner. If they do not come up, Not here moves them to the end of the line. Tap Auto mode on the desk to turn it off and call each singer yourself.
How does the line stay fair?
Auto rotation keeps the line in order so that everybody sings once before anybody sings twice. A newcomer's first song goes ahead of anybody's second. The next 4 songs never move, so those singers can get ready, and a song you move by hand stays where you put it. A duet uses up only the turn of whoever put it in. It is on for a new night.
Can somebody else run the desk?
Yes. The party's Settings show a QR code: scan it with any phone and that phone can call singers, skip and move songs, without signing in. It cannot see your settings or what you are owed. New code locks out every phone using the old one.
How do I wrap up the night?
Last call stops new songs going in; everybody already in line still sings. Give the night an end time in the settings and last call is called for you the moment the line would run past it (switch Call last call by itself off and the desk only warns you). End night closes it and puts thank-you and stats slides on the screens. A night left open closes by itself after 2 hours with no songs.
Who can find my party?
A new party is private: only people with the code or the QR can get in. Switch it to public in the settings and it is listed where singers look for somewhere to sing, without its code: phones never show a public party's code, so singers get it from the screen in the room. Anybody can find it; only the people there can sing at it. Kids nights are always private.
People are joining from outside the room. Can I stop that?
Turn on A new code every minute in the settings. The screens then show a code that changes every minute; the one before it still works, so nobody is caught mid-type, and using it lets that phone in for the rest of the night. A code texted to somebody at home is dead before they open it. Singers already in line stay in. It is off unless you turn it on, because the code is then only on the singer screen and the room screen: printed join cards stop working, and everybody has to be able to see a screen.
Can we do a kids night?
Yes. Turn on Kids night and only songs checked as fine for children are offered, with explicit versions off. A kids night also gets a kids tablet: scan its QR with a tablet, and children who cannot read yet pick a show by its picture, hear a bit of a song, and tap their own face to get in line.
Kids parties are not remembered: 2 hours after one ends, everything about who sang there is deleted, along with the children the tablet added.
Can I keep it clean?
Yes. Hide explicit in the settings hides every version marked explicit. Versions nobody has rated yet still show, so treat it as a filter rather than a guarantee. For children, use a kids night.
How many songs can a singer have in line?
3 at a time. Once one is sung, they can add another. The same song cannot be in line twice for the same singer.
What if somebody is a problem?
Tap Block next to their song on the desk. They cannot add songs for the rest of that night.
Cost and payouts
What does it cost?
Running nights and singing are free. If the karaoke master turns on Paid celebrations, singers can buy extras:
- 5 song celebrations: $4.99
- A dedication: $2.99
- Gold, once and for good: $4.99
How do karaoke masters get paid?
With paid celebrations on, you keep 50% of what singers spend at your nights, after the card fee. It is paid weekly by Venmo or Cash App once you are owed at least $10; less than that carries over to the next week. Add your Venmo or Cash App name on your karaoke master page.
Can people tip me?
Yes. Switch on Tips straight to you in the party's settings, and every phone at the party gets a button that opens your own Venmo or Cash App, the one on your karaoke master page. Tips go straight to you: they never pass through Singaroo, and we take none of it. While it is on, Singaroo's own tip jar is not shown at your party.
For singers
How do I join a party?
Scan the QR code on the screen or on a table card, go to the address shown under it, or type the party code on the front page.
Do I need an account?
No. Pick a song and give a name: that is the whole sign-up. Add an email and a password (free) to go Silver: 5 cheer emoji instead of 3, a ★ by your name, one free song celebration, and you can sign in on another phone.
Names are checked before they go on the screen. You can change yours on your account page, and after a change it stays put for 30 days.
What is Gold?
$4.99 once, and it stays on your account. You get all 10 cheer emoji, sent up the screen bigger, a gold star by your name, one free song celebration, and the room is told you went Gold.
What are song celebrations and dedications?
Song celebrations fill the screen at the end of somebody's song: fire, confetti, fireworks, make it rain, roses, a disco ball, thunderstruck or a mic drop. One each per song.
A dedication puts your words across the screen between songs. Its wording is checked first, and if it is turned down you keep the credit.
They only appear when the karaoke master has paid celebrations on.
How do duets work?
When the karaoke master has the Duet board on, post a duet from a song's search result and pick your part. Somebody in the room taps I am in to sing it with you. It takes one turn in the line, under your name.
What are badges?
Badges come from the songs you actually sing: how many, how many different ones, duets, late nights and more, each with levels. A new one is shown on the screen when you earn it. See yours on your badges page.
Wasn't this called NextUpKara?
Yes, until November 2026. Same site, same queue, same accounts: only the name changed. Old links and printed QR codes still work and bring you here. You may need to sign in once more, and a TV that was paired needs pairing again.
Still stuck?
Email [email protected] and say what you were trying to do. A photo of the screen helps.
